Fatimah Loren Dreier, Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education (Part 1)

The Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education asked researchers, community leaders, and frontline violence prevention professionals, “Why is gun violence a public health issue, and why does this matter?” Their responses shine a light on the causes of gun violence, its disproportionate impact on communities of color, and the health-focused strategies that can solve this crisis.

This video features Fatimah Loren Dreier, executive director of both the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education and The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention. “Typically, gun violence is seen as a criminal justice issue. At the Center, we see violence as a public health crisis, a public health emergency - one that requires the engagement of the health sector," says Dreier.
