About the Fall 2026 Funding Opportunity
There is an urgent need for better health system approaches to address firearm violence and firearm suicide and minimize their consequences on communities most affected. Such enhanced solutions require stronger evidence on what works in a range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), and other community-based health centers, to (1) reduce firearm violence or firearm suicide across communities, (2) identify individuals at highest risk of firearm violence or firearm suicide, and (3) improve clinical care for survivors.
The Center seeks to meet these needs by broadening the field of research to include more researchers and organizations that focus explicitly on healthcare approaches to addressing firearm violence and firearm suicide and by working closely with the most affected communities.
What We’re Funding
Through this 2026 Fall Funding Opportunity, the Center seeks to fund projects that meaningfully engage communities in the rigorous evaluation of healthcare-based firearm violence or firearm suicide prevention or intervention strategies to inform healthcare systems change—while intentionally developing the next generation of firearm injury prevention researchers.
Proposed evaluation research projects should:
- Inform healthcare systems change, including changes to clinical workflows, policies, financing mechanisms, data systems, partnerships, or organizational practices that affect populations of patients, providers, clinics, hospitals, or healthcare systems
- Focus on firearm violence and/or suicide prevention or intervention strategies
- Meaningfully engage with communities that have been the most impacted by firearm violence and/or firearm suicide across all phases of the evaluation research
- Strengthen the firearm injury prevention research workforce
- Plan for the translation and dissemination of findings across the funding period and beyond
Eligibility
- Nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity organizations in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service, or government entities exempt under IRS code section 501(c)(3)
- Groups with an established 501(c)(3) Model A or C fiscal sponsor

Funding Amount
The Center will fund up to two (2) projects with a maximum of $1,250,000 each over three years.
Submit Your Letter of Intent (LOI)
Step 1: Please carefully review all elements of the 2026 Fall Funding Opportunity Guidelines to confirm that your organization is eligible to apply.
Step 2: Prepare your LOI, including the components listed in the guidelines on pages 12-14.
Step 3: Complete and submit your LOI by Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 3 PM ET | 12 PM PT.
Step 4: All applicants will be notified of their status by February 2027. Selected organizations will advance to the full proposal stage.
