Gun Violence: A Public Health Issue
10/31/24

Dr. LJ Punch, the BRIC (Bullet Related Injury Clinic)

The Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education asked researchers, community leaders, and frontline violence prevention professionals, “Why is gun violence a public health issue, and why does this matter?” Their responses shine a light on the causes of gun violence, its disproportionate impact on communities of color, and the health-focused strategies that can solve this crisis.

This video features Dr. LJ Punch, Executive Director and Medical Director of the BRIC. “Any time a society has tens of thousands of people experiencing [an] injury directly, and hundreds of thousands experiencing it indirectly, you have got a problem that will fundamentally shift the health of the community as much as lead in the water,” says Dr. Punch.
